  • Association of Canadian Publishers (ACP)

    ACP is the trade association which represents Canadian-owned book publishers, with members from all provinces, and publishing sectors including literary, general trade, scholarly and education.

  • Book and Periodical Council (BPC)

    BPC is the umbrella organization for associations involved in the writing and editing, publishing and manufacturing, distribution, and selling and lending of books and periodicals in Canada. Our full members represent approximately 6,000 individuals and 5,500 firms and institutions. Our associate members represent an additional several thousand individuals, firms and institutions.

  • Canadian Poetry Association (CPA)

    The main aim of the CPA is to promote the reading, writing, publishing and preservation of poetry in Canada.

  • Canadian Booksellers’ Association (CBA)

    CBA is the trade association for Canada’s booksellers.

  • Canadian Business Press (CBP)

    CBP was established in 1920 and is incorporated as not-for-profit association to represent the interests of the Canadian business, professional and farm press.

  • Canadian Newspaper Association (CNA)

    CNA is the voice of Canada’s daily newspaper industry.

  • Canadian Publishers Council (CPC)

    Founded in 1910, the CPC is Canada's main English language book publishing trade association representing the interests of publishing companies that publish books and other media for elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, professional and reference markets, the retail and library sectors.

    The CSME was established to be the voice of Canadian magazine editors.

  • Coalition for Cultural Diversity (CCD)

    The CCD, an organization of Canadian cultural professional associations, has a mandate to assert that cultural diversity is a fundamental human right and that countries and governments be entirely free to adopt the policies necessary to support the diversity of cultural expression and the viability of enterprises that produce and disseminate this expression.

    AAOF’s mission is to assist in the development and promotion of literature in French Ontario. The AAOF brings together poets, novelists, playwrights, short story writers, essayists, screenwriters, journalists as well as artists who write or illustrate children’s books.

    LPG is an association of Canadian literary book publishers.

  • Magazines Canada

    Magazines Canada is Canada's leading professional magazine industry association, representing over 300 of the country's consumer titles. The member-driven, not-for-profit organization strives to serve Canadian magazines of all scope and size through ongoing advocacy and special initiatives.

  • Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC)

    OMDC is an agency of the Ontario Ministry of Culture that facilitates economic development opportunities for Ontario’s cultural media industries including book publishing, film and television, interactive digital media, magazine publishing, and music industries. The site has important background information about Ontario’s book and magazine sectors and links to industry sources.

  • Organization of Book Publishers of Ontario (OBPO)

    OBPO was incorporated in 1990 and has a current membership of 51 Ontario-based Canadian-owned book publishers.

  • PEN Canada

    PEN Canada one of 144 centres of International PEN in 102 countries, is a literary and human rights association formed in 1926 to protect everyone's right to freedom of expression.

Local Artists’ Associations

  • Capital Crime Writers (CCW) and Ottawa Romance Writers Association (ORWA)

    CCW brings together writers in Ottawa, at every stage of their career, interested in the Mystery/Crime genre.

  • Ottawa Story Tellers

    This association exists to promote the art of storytelling in our community, to nurture and inspire both beginning and experienced storytellers, and to provide tellers and listeners of all ages with opportunities to come together to share and enjoy stories

  • The Writers’ Circle of Durham Region (WCDR)

    The WCDR brings together individuals and groups with common interests in promoting the art and skill of writing, and fostering literacy. It works to raise the profile of writers of all kinds, and at all levels, by offering a forum through which they can find support, education and networking opportunities. Unions, guilds and artists’ associations

  • The Writer’s Union of Canada (TWUC)

    TWUC is a national organization which brings writers together for the advancement of their collective interests. To qualify for membership, a writer must have a trade book published, a commercial or university press, or the equivalent in another medium.

  • Places for Writers

    Places for Writers is a comprehensive resource for Canadian writers and readers of Canadian writers. There are daily updates of places to publish poetry and fiction, contests, occasional literary news, websites for writers, tips on how to get published, links to great Canadian writers, and resources for funding.

  • Professional Writers Association of Canada (PWAC)

    PWAC is the national association of freelance writers of: magazine and newspaper articles, books, speeches, newsletters, media releases, white papers, annual reports, advertising and brochure copy, sales and marketing material, Web content, training manuals, film scripts, radio and television documentaries, etc.

  • The League of Canadian Poets

    The League of Canadian Poets, a non-profit arts service organization, is the national association of professional publishing and performing poets in Canada.

  • The Canadian Authors Association (CAA)

    CAA is a national writing association with two categories of members: Professional Members are writers, engaged in writing in any genre, who have produced a sufficient body of published work for which they have been paid. Associate members are writers who have not yet produced sufficient material to qualify as a professional Member or wish to support Canadian writing.

  • Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ)

    CAJ is a national non-profit public interest advocacy and professional development organization bringing together 1500 Canadian journalists from all media, including print, radio, television and online.

  • Editors Association of Canada (EAC)

    EAC represents 1,600 editors working in all media.

  • Ottawa Romance Writers Association (ORWA)

    ORWA is the Canadian chapter of the Romance Writers of America and the website offers information specific to writers in this genre.
