Artist Run Centres and Collectives of Ontario (ARCCO)
ARCCO is a network that supports the growth and development of artist-directed organizations engaged in contemporary cultural practice and is affiliated with a similar national organization, the Artist-Run Centres and Collectives Conference (ARCCC-CCCAA). Artist- run centres are distinct from public art galleries, museums and commercial galleries, yet are also publicly funded. They pursue the promotion of contemporary art through a wide variety of means. Some produce gallery exhibitions, others specialize in offsite public art work, some foster the artwork of a particular medium, and others foster the artwork of the regional community. Membership in an artist-run centre helps artists to promote their work and develop as professionals. This site lists all the artist-run centres in Ontario.
Artscape
Based in Toronto, Artscape's work extends beyond its buildings with resources, programs and services available citywide, nationally and internationally. In addition to providing non-profit studio space and programming for visual artists, it has a residency program located at Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island.
Association for Native Development in the Performing & Visual Arts (ANDPVA)
ANDPVA is the country’s leading Aboriginal arts service organization, representing over 300 of the country’s active artists through advocacy, special initiatives and resourceful programming.
Bureau des regroupements des artistes visuels de l'Ontario (BRAVO)**
BRAVO is the arts service organization for Ontario’s francophone visual artists. It provides its members with links to other professional organizations and artist-run centres, professional development and promotional opportunities, and apprenticeship programs.
Canadian Artists Representation (CARFAC) Ontario
CARFAC Ontario is the association of professional visual and media artists and is affiliated with the national body (Canadian Artists' Representation/le Front des artistes canadiens). CARFAC Ontario works to develop policies, publications and services that assist artists, galleries, curators, art patrons, and other stakeholders in creating an economic climate that benefits all visual artists.
Canada Council for the Arts
Canada Council for the Arts is the national arts funding agency. This site provides information about the council’s grants dance professionals, including travel grants, and grants available to Aboriginal dance artists. The council also administers a number of important awards and prizes available to dance professionals.
Canadian Conference of the Arts (CCA)
The Canada Council for the Arts is a non-partisan, non-profit cultural advocacy organization. It provides a national forum for debate on cultural policy and is the leading national advocate for Canada's artists and cultural institutions and industries.
Coalition for Cultural Diversity (CCD)
The CCD, an organization of Canadian cultural professional associations, has a mandate to assert that cultural diversity is a fundamental human right and that countries and governments be entirely free to adopt the policies necessary to support the diversity of cultural expression and the viability of enterprises that produce and disseminate this expression.
Community Arts Ontario (CAO)
CAO is an arts service organization established in 1991, and currently represents a network of over 180 arts agencies, institutions, and municipalities across Ontario and close to 40 individual artists and public supporters. CAO’s website contains listings of community arts council activities across the province.
International Network for Cultural Diversity (INCD)
INCD is a world wide network of artists and cultural groups dedicated to countering the adverse effects of globalization on world cultures.
Native Women in the Arts (NWIA)
NWIA pursues the highest standards of artistic excellence by presenting high quality artists, and by offering exceptional professional development opportunities to emerging artists.
Ontario Association of Art Galleries (OAAG)
With roots back to 1947, OAAG is the not-for-profit association representing Ontario’s public and private sector art galleries. It works to encourage close cooperation with the Ontario Arts Council, to assist developing visual art centres in the Province, to promote high standards of excellence and uniform methods in the care and presentation of works of art and to be an advisory body in matters of professional interest.
Ontario Museums Association (OMA)
OMA’s members are the museums and art galleries in the province. The site contains listings of exhibitions at various galleries and special events.
Ontario Society of Artists (OSA)
Founded in 1872, the OSA is Canada's longest continuing art society. A professional association for visual artists living and working in Ontario, it promotes the visual arts through annual exhibitions of work by members, publications, and a juried art exhibition open to all artists working in two and three dimensional media.
Visual Arts Ontario (VAO)
VAO aims to provide it members with information and skills required by professional visual artists: portfolio presentation, marketing strategies, exhibition management, proposal development, artist’s statements, and anything that relates to the business of being an artist. VAO offers courses, workshops, detailed self-help guides, on-line training programs, and one-on-one consultations. VAO’s regular trade publications are Agenda and Hidden Agenda.
